Hazard Classification in Manufacturing Facility
A client of The Catalyst Group, who manufactures and develops microscopes and related products, needed a Flammable Liquid Risk Assessment performed on a 3,000 sq. ft. production and storage room.
The Catalyst Group only had one day (6-8 hrs.) to conduct the assessment. The assessment was not an engineering-level review and did not include design or corrective action specifications.
How We Helped
The Catalyst Group conducted a visual assessment of the following items in order to provide the client with an opinion on the appropriate hazard classification of the room:
- Electrical installations within the room
- Flammable vapor ignition hazards from static electricity
- Flammable liquid/vapor handling practices within the room
- Ignition and explosion prevention and mitigation systems
The Catalyst Group was able to help the clients identify and classify all hazards related to flammable liquids present in the manufacturing facility. The Catalyst Group suggested that the client continues to conduct risk assessments prior to any work involving flammable liquids and develop safe work procedures to keep risk levels as low as possible. If flammable liquids are necessary to the work, always make sure Safety Data Sheets are readily available.
