Fire Safety Assessment
A client of The Catalyst Group, a pharmaceutical company, requested a Fire Safety Assessment of a plant in Indonesia to identify any fire hazards associated with their operations and assess the adequacy of their existing design and operational control measures against local regulatory requirements and global best practices.
Challenges
Our global client needed to identify the fire hazards associated with their facility due to a corporate audit and required near term assistance from our Singapore office.
How We Helped
The Catalyst Group conducted a comprehensive Fire Safety Analysis of the entire plant which included:
- All types of buildings including process and “non-process” buildings usage
- Process systems or areas such as IPA tank farm, diesel tank area, boiler systems and other utilities systems
The first step in carrying out the assessment was to identify any fire safety hazards and any fire protection measures in accordance with applicable legal regulations. This included assessing:
- The adequacy of the escape route, fire doors, emergency lights, and signage
- The need and adequacy of smoke vents and fire sprinkler systems
- Fire risk at methane gas cylinders station
The second step was to identify applicable Fire Safety Requirements including those issued by the client, country, state, and local regulations as well as international best practices. The Catalyst Group developed a checklist of all applicable Fire Design and Operational Safety requirements. In cases of conflicting requirements, The Catalyst Group applied the most stringent requirement. After the checklist was complete, The Catalyst Group carried out the assessment to determine compliance. We did a data review and site assessment/verification of the installed safeguards against requirements and made suitable recommendations.
Results
The Catalyst Group was able to make confidential recommendations to the client for mitigating risk. One way to do so is to perform regular inspection and maintenance procedures for the entire plant. The Catalyst Group also recommended implementing an emergency response plan and carrying out regular drills so all employees are properly trained on what to do in the case of a fire.
